Filipino superstitions include the belief that sleeping with wet hair causes insanity and that the continued presence of a black butterfly is an indication of a recent death in the family. When a child becomes sick, superstition urges parents to change that child's name to misdirect the spirits causing harm.
Some Filipino superstitions are more religious in their basis, such as the belief that any wound sustained on Good Friday takes longer to heal. Others have a more familiar basis in tridecaphobia, such as the belief that gathering in groups of 13 is unlucky.
It is also believed by some superstitious Filipinos that the dead return on the 3rd, 5th and 7th days from their deaths.
