Cole Porter was born on June 9, 1891 in Peru, Indiana. He wrote his first musical, "See America First," in 1916. In 1917, he went to France, and while there he married Linda Lee Thomas. Porter continued writing musicals until his leg was amputated in 1958 as a result of a previous horse riding accident in 1937. He died in Santa Monica, California, on Oct. 15, 1964 at the age of 73.
