The Global Hawk and the X-47B Pegasus by Northrop Grumman are two examples of pilotless drones. Northrop Grumman developed both drones in partnership with the U.S. government.

Able to climb up to 60,000 feet, the Global Hawk can stay in air for up to 32 hours without interruption. The drone can carry 3,000 pounds and has a range of some 14,100 miles. Although Northrop Grumman developed the drone for military surveillance purposes, it now serves NASA in research missions.

The X-47B is a strike fighter-sized drone that weighs 42,000 pounds. Powered a single Pratt & Whitney F100 turbofan engine, the drone has a payload capacity of 4,500 pounds. The X-47B has a range of some 4,000 miles and can reach high subsonic speeds.
