As of 2015, no medical research shows that eye exercises can improve vision, although they may help some people delay needing glasses, according to Harvard Medical School. Eye exercises cannot relieve common conditions such as farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. Glaucoma and macular degeneration also require medical treatment.
Simple eye exercises may help some people postpone obtaining prescription eye wear. Resting the eyes from visual close-up work by looking at objects far away is a useful exercise, notes Harvard Medical School. Contrary to popular belief, wearing glasses or contacts with a prescription weaker than needed does not train the eyes or improve vision.
