What is a facial rash?

According to Healthgrades, a facial rash is a form of inflammation affecting the skin of the face. The texture or color of the skin changes noticeably, and it may become itchy. The skin cells of the face may start to peel or flake as a result of the rash.

There are many causes of facial rash. According to Skinsight, facial rash may arise due to acne, rosacea and certain forms of dermatitis. More serious causes, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, sarcoidosis and zoster, occur less frequently.

Healthgrades notes that a facial rash may affect the entire face or only a portion of it. It may be indicative of a problem in another part of the body.
