What is a fact about the Appalachian Plateau?
By Forinfos - 03/08/2025 - 0 comments
An important fact about the Appalachian Plateau is that it is a geological province that extends continuously through several states, from New York to Alabama, forming the western boundary of the Appalachian Mountains. The Pigeon, Lookout and Sand mountains cover the plateau in the northwest corner of Georgia.
Rock fossils in the Appalachian Plateau date back to the Paleozoic era and were deposited in shallow seas up to 540 million years ago before being uplifted during mountain formations. The oldest rocks in the plateau country are limestone and shale dating from the Cambrian through Devonian periods between 542-359 million years ago.
