Why do boys love cars?

Scientists do not know why boys prefer cars and wheeled vehicles and girls prefer dolls, but studies suggest the preference is linked to male sex hormone levels. Boys tend to have stronger spatial navigation abilities that make cars and wheeled vehicles attractive.

A 2002 study by Texas A&M University and City University in London showed that vervet monkeys have the same sex-typical toy preferences as human children. Male monkeys preferred to play with a ball and a police car, and female monkeys preferred to play with dolls. This study shows that boys' love for cars does not have a sociological explanation but may be linked to biology.
