How do you read a baby weight gain chart?

To read a baby growth chart, find the place where the baby's weight intersects with his age in months on the chart. For most babies, this point falls on or near one of the curves that indicate the baby's percentile, or how large he is compared to other babies.
When reading a baby growth chart, it is necessary to get several different measurements over time to see how the baby's weight is changing. As long as the baby's weight follows one of the curves on the chart, he is probably growing in a healthy manner. If the baby falls into a lower percentile group he may naturally be smaller than others his age, and vice versa for larger babies.
