How far apart do you plant strawberries?

According to the Farmer's Almanac, strawberries should be planted 20 inches apart with 4 feet between rows. They should be in a new area that did not grow eggplant, strawberries, tomatoes or peppers recently.

Strawberries should be planted in an area that has a pH between 5.5 and 7. They also require direct sunlight, about six to 10 hours each day. Strawberries prefer a loamy soil that has been amended with manure and is well-drained. Raised beds are a great option for strawberries. Trim roots to under 8 inches prior to planting. Water the strawberries about an inch deep each week.
