How fast does bamboo grow?

Some species of bamboo grow up to a foot or more each day, while the new shoots of some species grow more than a yard each day. Some bamboo grows to be more than 100 feet tall.

Bamboo is a type of grass divided into two types: running bamboo and clumping bamboo. Both types spread using rhizomes that grow between 2 to 18 inches underground. The rhizomes of clumping bamboo do not spread quickly, while the rhizomes of running bamboo grow rapidly and spread quickly.
