How fast can a dog run?

Dogs can run at speeds of up to 43 miles per hour, varying by breed. The fastest is the greyhound, one of the oldest breeds known to man and popular for its use in racing.

Not far behind are the Vizsla, a Hungarian breed and popular family dog, and the Saluki, which both reach up to 40 miles per hour. Despite its small stature, the Jack Russell terrier reaches speeds up to 38 miles per hour. Other fast canine breeds include the spotted Dalmatian, borzoi, Weimaraner and Doberman pinscher, which run at speeds up to 37, 36, 35 and 30 miles per hour, respectively.
