How fast does a giant panda run?

A giant panda's running speed depends on its age and the terrain; while no specific speed is recorded, it runs slower in the wild than a jogging human does on flat, open ground. In a dense bamboo forest, however, a human is considerably slower than the panda.

Giant pandas prefer the solitude of bamboo forests high in the mountains of central China. Young giant pandas are susceptible to attacks from leopards and jackals. Giant pandas, due to their relaxed eating style with legs stretched out before them, appear lethargic, but they climb trees and swim with skill and efficiency. An endangered species, less than 1,000 giant pandas live in the wild, and approximately 100 are in captivity.
