How fast does a segway go?

The Segway PT has two modes of operation, beginner and standard, with a maximum speed of 12.5 mph in standard mode, as of November 2015. The default maximum speed in beginner mode is 6 mph.

The maximum speeds for each mode may be adjusted by using an InfoKey controller. Two controllers are included with each Segway PT. Each controller can be programmed individually, and the controllers can be locked in beginner mode. The speed limit in beginner mode may be set from 4.0 mph to 8.0 mph in increments of 0.5 mph. The speed limit in standard mode may be set from 4.0 mph to 12.5 mph in increments of also 0.5 mph.
