How fast do sweet potato vines grow?

According to a review of sweet potato vine garden plants by the Times Picayune newspaper, the ornamental sweet potato vine is a very fast-growing plant that can easily take over a small garden. The review suggests planting them in partially shaded areas to lower their rapid growth rate.

The Times Picayune article also suggests that the amount of sunlight exposed to the plant not only regulates its growth rate but also affects the overall pigmentation of the plant. Vines planted in shade grow to be a muted chartreuse color, whereas vines grown in full sunshine give a bright greenish yellow.
