How fast does a turtle move?
By Forinfos - 14/11/2025 - 0 comments
The average turtle can swim at speeds of 10 to 12 mph and walk at 3 to 4 mph. Sea turtles are faster in water, reaching maximum speeds of 20 mph, but they are very slow on land and must drag themselves along with their flippers.
Turtles spend most of their time in water and have webbed feet to help them swim. They often climb out of the water to bask in the sun on rocks or logs, and when colder weather comes, they burrow into the mud for brumation, a form of dormancy similar to hibernation, until the spring. All turtles lay their eggs on land, burying them in sand or dirt. Baby turtles make their way to nearby water soon after they hatch.
