Placing a can or bottle of soda in a cold water-filled pot with some salt added is the fastest way to chill a soda. Other methods that can chill a soda quickly include simply putting it in a freezer or wrapping it in wet paper towel and then putting it in a freezer.

Adding even a small amount of salt to an ice and water mixture will lower the freezing point of the ice, meaning it takes a much lower temperature at which the ice will begin to melt. With the lower temperature, the ice and water absorb some of the heat from the can or bottle, reducing the temperature of the liquid inside the container.
