Who is the father of modern botany?

The title "Father of Modern Botany" is often attributed to 16th- and 17th-century Swiss-French botanist and scientist Gaspard Bauhin. Also known as Caspar Bauhin, his 1623 work, the "llustrated Exposition of Plants," was an early attempt at botanical classification.

Bauhin was the son of noted French physician Jean Bauhin. Bauhin's 1623 work described approximately 6,000 plant species. It was one of the first works to correctly group grasses and legumes into the same category. His classification system, a precursor to the contemporary system devised by Linneaus, was one of the first to divide a scientific name into a genus and species name.
