According to The History Learning Site, Louis XVI famously said, "I have no intention of sharing my authority." This comment regarded France's political system of absolutism. Louis XVI was the king of France from 1774 until 1792.

Prior to establishing absolute rule, a monarch was required to work in conjunction with the queen, the noblemen and the country's peasant population. An absolute authority society made the king's word law. Louis XVI stated this principle when he said, "One king, one law, one faith." He also believed that the interests of the state were better under this arrangement. As an absolute monarch, the king's power was based in an army that had the authority to carry out his bidding.
