Louis Zamperini was featured on the CBS television news show, "60 Minutes," in a story about Zamperini and his carrying of the Olympic torch in 1998. The newsmagazine program interviewed Zamperini's cruelest torturer, Mutzuhiro "The Bird" Watanabe, during the same episode.
Zamperini returned from Japan as a prisoner of war and vowed to avenge his torturer, Watanabe. He never did get to meet, avenge or forgive the Japanese Army Sergeant nor did he receive an apology or explanation from the 23rd most wanted war criminal known as "The Bird."
