The fear of clowns is known as coulrophobia. According to NBC News, many people may experience a clown phobia due to the fact that all clowns wear some sort of disguise and do not generally display any true emotion.
The symptoms of coulrophobia include nausea, increased heartbeat, sweating and even feelings of dread or fear. Treating a fear of clowns is much like treating any other type of phobia. Those who suffer from coulrophobia must first acknowledge their fear and learn how to deal with any anxiety associated with the problem. NPR has noted that in recent years, workshops have been organized to help people overcome coulrophobia.
