Most cell phone carriers charge a fee for canceling a contract early. This fee is usually called an early termination fee.
ATT charges anywhere from $150 to $325 to cancel a line of service before the contract has come to term. This company subtracts between $4 and $13.54 for each month of the contract that was completed, reducing its early termination fee.
Verizon charges a flat $350 early termination fee. However, the company allows a new customer 14 days to change his or her mind before charging the fee.
Some companies, like T-Mobile, will pay a customer's early termination fee, up to $350 for switching to T-Mobile.
These figures were accurate as of 2015 and are subject to change without notice.
