Why do feet sweat so much?

While most people experience foot sweating when it is hot or during physical activity, some people have an inherited condition called hyperhidrosis, according to the American Podiatric Medical Association. WebMD adds that a minor malfunction of a person's central nervous system appears to trigger this excessive foot-sweating condition.

Hyperhidrosis carries no severe medical risks, reports WebMD, but it causes some people to avoid social settings. Doctors can prescribe treatments, such as prescription roll-on deodorants or botox injections, to treat hyperhidrosis, notes the APMA. Along with daily antibacterial washing of the feet, the APMA suggests that people with this condition dry their feet, apply corn starch or foot powder, and wear socks that wick sweat.
