What is a female boar called?

A female boar is called a sow. If she has not yet mated, she is called a gilt. Like pigs, boars are swine. Mature swine are referred to as hogs, and young swine are called pigs.

Wild boars are native to northern Africa and Eurasia and can be found in Great Britain, Korea, Siberia and Japan. They have been introduced to most places that are inhabited by humans and have had a strong presence in the Americas, Austria and New Zealand.

In areas where tigers live, boars are their primary source of food. Tigers follow groups of boars and pick off the younger or weaker animals.
