What is the best fertilizer for bermuda grass?

According to the Clemson Cooperative Extension, Bermuda grass requires ½ to 1 pound of nitrogen fertilizer per 1000 square feet every four to six weeks after the grass turns green, or 1 ½ pound of slow-release nitrogen fertilizer for a period of eight to 10 weeks.

Soil can be tested by the county extension office to determine what nutrients the lawn is lacking. If the soil hasn't been tested, the recommended practice is to use a complete fertilizer with a ratio of 3-1-2 of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. Bermuda grass grows well in nearly all types of soil and is able to resist draught. It needs regular maintenance, such as fertilization and mowing, in order to perform well.
