What is fireball candy?

Atomic Fireballs are sphere-shaped spicy cinnamon candies. Atomic Fireballs first hit the market in 1954, and they are still made by the Ferrara Pan candy company.

The candy concept was developed by Nello Ferrara. He wanted to create something with a bite. The demand for Atomic Fireballs far exceeded what the company was able to produce at the time, so it had to increase its production capacity. This candy can still be found today. In some ways, it resembles a jawbreaker, as it is made by adding layers of candy to the small center of a single piece of sugar.
