The first full-length album from George Jones was "The Grand Ole Opry's New Star," released in 1957. Prior to that, he released several singles, including "No Money in This Deal" in 1954 and "Why, Baby, Why" in 1955.

It wasn't until 1956 that George Jones began to score consistent hits, with songs such as "What am I Worth" and "Just One More." In the same year, he joined the cast of the Grand Ole Opry and also signed to Mercury Records, through which he released his career-defining hits "Don't Stop the Music" and "White Lightning," among others. Throughout the remainder of the 1950s, Jones scored a successive string of hits and developed his style as a tender balladeer of country music.
