The first Aston Martin was built in 1915, less than one year after the company name was birthed in 1914. The company was founded in 1913 as Bamford & Martin LTD by Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin.
The company closed in 1925 due to financial problems but was saved by a group of investors in 1926 and formed Aston Martin Motors LTD. Road car production maintained a steady increase in the 1930s, and 140 cars were built in 1937, which was the highest pre-war number. The Aston Martin Atom was produced in 1939 using a space-frame chassis and independent suspension.
