Firs Communion, or First Holy Communion, is the Catholic ceremony when a young child receives the first reception of Eucharist. First Communion is typically a family event where a vast number of family members are invited.
First Communion is usually done around the age of 7 or 8. In order to receive First Communion a child must first be baptized, and must have been through the process of their first confession. Those who receive their First Communion wear special clothing that includes white, wedding like dresses for the girls and suits for the boys. Wearing white at this event is to symbolize the child's purity.
