The first motorbike, or motorcycle, was invented in 1885 by Gottleib Daimier. This motorcycle used a frame that is based off of the design of the Rover Safety bicycle created by John Kemp Starley. The Daimler motorcycle added a single cylinder engine that was mounted on the center frame.
The Otto-cycle single cylinder engine in the middle of the motorcycle was mounted at a vertical orientation. The chassis of the Daimler motorcycle was made from wood and used wheels that had iron rims and wooden spokes. The motorcycle also had one wheel at the front and one wheel at the rear. Two outrigger wheels were also installed on the machine to improve stability.
