The first symptoms of meningitis usually include fever, headache and vomiting, according to the Meningitis Research Foundation. Limb pain, pale skin color, and cold hands and feet may appear as well, followed by neck stiffness, rash and confusion.
Meningitis is the inflammation of the meninges, or the lining around the brain and spinal cord, notes the Meningitis Research Foundation. Septicaemia is a blood poisoning caused by the same germs as meningitis, and is a more life-threatening version of the disease. Septicaemia may occur with or without meningitis.
If meningitis is suspected, people should seek emergency medical attention immediately, advises WebMD.
