Individuals who have latent tuberculosis do not experience any symptoms, according to Mayo Clinic. It's only when latent TB progresses into active TB that symptoms begin to display. Common symptoms of active TB include fever, fatigue, chills, unintentional weight loss, chest pain and blood discharge while coughing.
Latent TB does not cause any symptoms because the bacterium situated in the lungs is inactive. People can have latent TB for weeks or even years before developing active TB, states Mayo Clinic. Once active, TB can affect other vital organs, including the brain, liver and kidneys. It can also cause spinal pain.
