The five rules of the Smith System were designed to keep drivers safe on the road and reduce the amount of accidents. The rules state that by constantly keeping aware of their surroundings and remaining alert at all times, drivers will remain safer. According to the Smith System, drivers should always indicate and make eye contact with other drivers whenever possible to be sure that they have been seen by others using the roads.
