To fix the blue screen error on a PC, boot in safe mode, note any driver failures and attempt to reinstall. If there are none, check for hardware conflicts in Device Manager to reinstall and if there are still none, perform a system scan in safe mode for spyware, adware and viruses. If none of these options resolve the blue screen error, try to boot the PC in the "Last Known Good Configuration," then with "Enable Boot Logging" to identify the problem application to uninstall, or else perform a system restore.
To fix the blue screen error on a PC, follow these steps.
- Boot in Safe Mode to determine driver errors
- Scan the system
- Boot Last Known Good Configuration
- Restore system
- Buy a new hard disk
Boot up the PC and press F8 before the Windows screen. Select Safe Mode and as the PC boots up, take note of the last .sys file that appears before the boot up fails. On another computer, search for the .sys file and attempt to reinstall the associated driver. If the PC boots up in Safe Mode without problems, go into Control Panel, then System and click on Device Manager. Check each device for driver errors and attempt to reinstall the relevant driver.
If there are no driver errors, run spyware, adware and virus scans in Safe Mode, using software, such as Malwarebytes. Also scan for Registry problems with an app like Little Registry Cleaner.
If the blue screen error persists, reboot and press F8 before the Windows screen. Select the Last Known Good Configuration option.
If the blue screen error persists, perform a system restore by going to Control Panel, System and Security, then Backup and Restore. Select "Recover System Settings for your Computer" and choose a date before the blue screen error first occurred. Click through the system restore wizard.
If the blue screen error still persist, replace the hard disk.
