How do you fix uneven floors?

Fix an uneven floor by hammering or sinking in any nails that have popped up, sanding the area, adding latex floor filler and sanding the floor again. This can take more than a day. You need a hammer, a 36-grit sander, latex floor filler and 50- and 100-grit sandpaper.
- Hammer in nails
Go over the floor, and hammer in any nails that are not flush with the floor.
- Sand the floor
Use a 36-grit sander to sand the floor. Sand the floor first diagonally and then parallel to the floor boards. Sand the edges using a floor edger.
- Vacuum up the dust
Vacuum up any sanding dust.
- Apply latex floor filler
Add water to latex floor filler until it is no longer viscous. Use a rubber grouting float to spread the filler across the entire floor. Allow the filler to dry.
- Sand the floor
Sand the floor and edges with 50-grit sandpaper. Run the sander parallel to the floor boards.
- Check on the filler
Make sure that the filler has not lifted from the floor. If it has, add more filler to the areas.
- Sand the floor again
Sand the areas that you refilled with 100-grit sandpaper. Stain the floor if needed.
