Fleet Bank, also known as Fleet National Bank, is a former New England-based bank that was established in 1784 and became Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation-insured in 1934, as stated by the FDIC. On June 13, 2005, it merged with Bank of America in a nongovernment sanctioned merger and assumed its name. All Fleet branches were converted to Bank of America branches.
Fleet Bank was originally known as The First National Bank of Boston, with its headquarters located in Boston, Mass. In 1997, it became FleetBoston when Fleet Bank and BankBoston merged. In 2000, it moved the company headquarters to Providence, R.I., and changed the name to Fleet National Bank.
