What are floor and wall protectors for wood stoves called?

Floor and wall protectors for wood stoves are called thermal barriers. Correctly installing an appropriate thermal barrier allows the stove to be placed closer to the wall. For areas without thermal barriers, the recommended clearance is 36 inches from each wall.

A thermal barrier placed on the floor must extend 18 inches out from the stove on all sides. The type of floor protector required depends on the length of the stove legs; shorter legs require a thicker barrier. Thermal barriers placed on the wall must have a 1-inch clearance between the barrier and the wall to allow for air circulation.
