What is a folding boat?

A folding boat is a special type of watercraft that can be folded down to a smaller size to be transported easily. Generally the boats fit one to two people when expanded, and they can be transported easily in a car when collapsed.

The main point of folding boats is their ease of transportation, and as of 2014, they can be constructed out of lightweight materials such as aluminum and plastic. However, folding boats were made prior to the invention of these modern lightweight materials. The Shellbend Folding Boat Company of Liverpool was making folding boats out of mahogany wood and canvas as early as the 1890s.
