What is food-grade hydrogen peroxide?

Food-grade hydrogen peroxide is a concentrated solution of hydrogen peroxide that has been marketed as a remedy for many ailments, including cancer. These remedies are not supported by science, and the consumption or injection of 35 percent hydrogen peroxide is potentially hazardous.
Food-grade hydrogen peroxide is used to treat and disinfect surfaces in food processing plants. As a remedy for cancer, AIDS or multiple sclerosis, however, hydrogen peroxide is ineffective. Internal consumption of concentrated oxidizers is potentially harmful and has been linked to several poisonings and at least one death. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers to be wary of the claims made by hydrogen peroxide proponents.
