Is the food online up to FDA regulation?

Food online is subject to Food and Drug Administration regulation if its sale constitutes interstate commerce and the food falls outside of categories covered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the FDA explains. The USDA regulates the sale of meat, poultry and some egg products.

FDA regulations apply to companies that manufacture, process, pack, transport, distribute, receive or import food, the agency notes. The FDA requires that these companies keep documents on how the food has been handled and by whom. These records must be made available to the FDA at the agency's request. Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations details the FDA's rules.
