Onion ring batter can be made by mixing together flour and beer and then dredging Vidalia onions through the mixture. The battered onions are then deep-fried in vegetable oil and salted to taste.
Beer-Battered Onion Rings

Prep Time: 5 mins.
Cook Time: 4 mins.
Ready In: 10 mins.
Ingredients:
- Prepare the batter
- Prepare the onions
- Heat the deep fryer
Add around 2 inches of vegetable oil to the bottom of the deep fryer. Preheat the oil to 370 degree Fahrenheit.
- Dredge the onions through the batter
- Fry and drain
Place 1 cup of all-purpose flour in a bowl, making a well in the center of the flour. Pour 1 cup of beer into the well, and then whisk the mixture together until it's well combined. Use a sieve to strain the batter into another bowl. Allow the batter to rest for an hour before proceeding to prepare the onions for dredging.
Peel two Vidalia onions and cut them crosswise into sections 1/3-inch thick. Separate them into rings.
Dredge the onion rings through the batter. Use additional flour to dust the onions after dipping to help the batter adhere to each ring.
Fry the onion rings in the oil until they are golden brown. Transfer the onion rings using a slotted spatula or other tool to a paper-towel-lined plate. Allow them to drain. Salt them as desired and serve.
