What is football face paint?

Face paint can be used in two ways in football. Fans use face paint to express support for their team while attending a game. Players may use "eye black" in bright conditions to reduce glare.

Eye black consists of a dark grease smeared in a horizontal strip underneath each eye. It is used in sunny conditions or when stadium lights at night are particularly bright, helping a player keep track of the ball when it is in the air. Fans in the stands also frequently paint their faces in some combination of team colors to express their support for and solidarity with the team.
