Force Outboard Motors were initially manufactured by Chrysler Marine until 1984, when Chrysler's outboard division was sold to U.S. Marine, which would later become part of Mercury Marine. Prior to being acquired by U.S. Marine, Force Outboard motors were marketed under the brand Chrysler Outboard.
The Force brand was manufactured by U.S. Marine for use on its own brand of Bayliner Boats until the company was bought by Brunswick Corporation in 1986 and amalgamated into Mercury Marine. Mercury Marine continued to produce Force Outboards, which became available for use on boats other than Bayliner, until the range was eventually discontinued in 1999.
