Who founded Society of Jesus?

Ignatius of Loyola founded the Society of Jesus, an order of male members of the Catholic Church otherwise known as Jesuits. This society was founded to educate and promote the Christian lifestyle and doctrine around the world.

Pope Paul III approved the society's establishment in 1540. The Society of Jesus has been a functioning company of "God's Soldier's," a name honoring Ignatius' military background, ever since. Jesuits worldwide, who have taken vows of poverty, chastity and obedience to the Pope, stand ready to serve the needs of the society. Today the society is dedicated to missionary work, social justice, human rights and higher education promoting a spiritual intellectual lifestyle.
