FreedomPop changes voice calls into data packets, which makes its service cheaper by a factor of five compared to traditional phone companies. FreedomPop then uses bandwidth bought from Sprint Nextel Corporation to transfer these data packets, which are resolved back to voice calls on the other end.

FreedomPop is a mobile phone service that offers megabytes of 4G data monthly, hundreds of anytime call minutes, unlimited texting and unlimited phone calls to other users within the FreedomPop network. It also differs from other phone companies because the entire service is free of contractual obligations. It is necessary to purchase a FreedomPop phone, however.
