The French island of Corsica is located in the Mediterranean Sea. It sits southeast of France, west of Italy and just north of the island of Sardinia.
As of 2013, Corsica has a population of 322,120 people. Its size is 3,350 square miles. It is famous for being the birth place of Napoleon Bonaparte, who was born in its capital city (Ajaccio) in 1769. It is also the possible birthplace of the world famous explorer Christopher Columbus. Corsica is a mountainous island with 620 miles of coastline containing over 200 beaches. Its highest peak is Monte Cinto, which rises 8,878 feet above sea level.
