How frequently should you urinate?

A normal rate of urination is eight times in a 24-hour period, according to Cleveland Clinic. Going more often than that can be a result of drinking too much liquid or consuming caffeine, which acts as a diuretic.
Chronic frequent urination can often be a sign of underlying health conditions, such as a urinary infection, heart condition, inflammatory disorder or prostrate problems, notes Cleveland Clinic. For women in particular, frequent urination can happen as a result of weak pelvic floor muscles caused by vaginal childbirth.
If frequent urination accompanies other symptoms, such as fever, pain, fatigue or thirst, consulting a medical professional may be necessary, explains WebMD. The doctor can perform a thorough physical exam to determine any underlying conditions.
