Where are the fuel tanks located in airplanes?
By Forinfos - 08/01/2026 - 0 comments
Most airplanes have their fuel tanks located in the wings, but some aircraft will also have fuel tanks within their air frame. The positioning of the fuel tanks within the wings is done to help with a stable center of gravity, which is due to the weight of the fuel on both sides of the aircraft being even.
While most civilian aircraft have their fuel tanks in the wings, it is not uncommon for military aircraft to carry drop tanks. These spare tanks can be accessed in an emergency, or even an extra fuel bladder within their cargo bay, that can be used to assist other aircraft in air to air refueling operations.
