What is full custody of a child?
By Forinfos - 29/08/2025 - 0 comments
Full custody of a child is a combination of legal custody and physical custody, according to Attorneys.com. This includes the legal right to make all decisions regarding the child's upbringing, including education, health care, and cultural and religious training, as well as where the child physically resides.
Full custody is rarely granted to one parent in divorce cases, notes Nolo. Judges prefer shared custody arrangements, even establishing joint physical and legal custody so that both parents share in the major decisions regarding a child's upbringing. Full custody is only justified when one parent has exhibited behaviors that are detrimental to the child's safety and well-being.
