Who is Gabby Douglas?

Gabby Douglas was a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic women's gymnastics team; she was also the first African American to win a gold medal as an individual in the all-around event. Her given name is Gabrielle Christina Victoria Douglas. She is also known by the nickname "the Flying Squirrel."

Gabby Douglas was born in Virginia Beach, Va., on New Year's Eve in 1995, and she began gymnastics training when she was 6 years old. She became a state champion in Virginia at the age of 8 and placed fourth all-around in her first national competition in 2010. Gabby Douglas came in first at the 2012 Olympic Trials.
