Gallium oxide, more properly known as gallium(III) oxide, is a compound containing two atoms of gallium and three atoms of oxygen. It is represented by the chemical formula Ga2O3, and it is used in the production of lasers for use in nanotechnology and optics.
Gallium oxide is also known as gallium trioxide or gallium sesquioxide. It has five polymorphs, indicated with the Greek letters alpha, beta, gamma, delta and epsilon. Beta-gallium(III) oxide is a commonly used catalytic agent. Gallium(III) oxide has a molar mass of 187.44 grams per mole. It has the appearance of a white crystal-like powder, and it can be found in the manufacturing of semiconductor devices.
